Everyone else seems to be focusing on Grokster today, so I wanted to mention something else of note. A group called the Center for Democracy and Technology has made public copies of short briefs on current political issues (Washington Post story). Usually, only members of Congress have access to them.

“Taxpayers pay $100 million a year for this resource, yet they don’t have ready access to it,” said CDT spokesman David McGuire. “We don’t think they should have to pay twice to get their hands on it.”

I was at Borders the other day looking for some interesting books, and I happened upon the certification preps for Security+ etc from Sybex. I started reading that one and it was so good that I bought it and a couple others from Sybex.

Frankly I have no clue whether these certifications have any meaning in the real world, but I think they’ll be kinda fun to get.

So I’ve been looking around for a wireless card for my desktops to reduce the wire mess behind the desk. On a whim, I stopped by RadioShack this afternoon. They had a sign for the D-Link DWL-G510 for $39 after a $10 mail-in rebate. I thought, “OK, that seems pretty reasonable, since it was running $50 at OfficeMax and Staples.” But then I noticed the fine print that said it was only valid through 6/22, and today is 6/23.

I asked an employee whether I could still get the discount, and he said no but he could check the new price. He checks, and it’s now selling for $39 plus a $10 mail-in rebate, which ends up running $29.

The box also includes a low-profile bracket, so I bought an extra for the Pegasos.

One vital note: Make sure you pick up a “B” revision card, not “A.” The “B” cards are Atheros, but the “A” cards are Broadcom. Look on the barcodes; there’s a section that says H/W Ver. Also, the boxes have a huge red stripe across them instead of being solid blue.

So I was trying to wade through the hundreds of posts on Planet Sun since yesterday, and it made me think: Is there a way to have categorized planets? For example, when reading Planet Sun, I’d like to see a category after each blogger. That way, I could click on the category and get all the bloggers in whatever area I’m interested in.

Sounds like they’re being ported to Linux. Who’s gonna write the ebuild?
