About
About Donnie Berkholz (me!)
I have vast experience at all levels of Linux-distribution creation and management at Gentoo Linux, where I’ve volunteered since 2003 to build and lead a Linux distribution of more than 250 dedicated people and personally maintain nearly 400 packages. I’m working to transform Gentoo into a great distribution. My primary focus is on high-level questions, although I do get down and dirty as a core developer. I’ve worked in areas including leading our public relations team, maintaining the X window system, deciding on global Gentoo issues as part of our elected council, managing our desktop efforts, and working with scientific and clustering applications. I often write about Gentoo as a guest author for LWN.net, the best Linux news site (in my humble opinion).
I’m also an IT industry analyst at RedMonk (as of Dec. 1, 2011). I do data-driven analysis of software development, from the perspective of developers as the driving force behind adoption of new technology.
